Prince Philip Involved In Car Crash Near Sandringham

The Duke is now being cared for

Prince Philip has been involved in a car accident with another vehicle on Thursday, January 17. 

The Duke of Edinburgh was not injured in the incident, which occurred near the royal family’s Sandringham Estate, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said.

The 97-year-old royal was driving at the time of the accident. Philip was pulling out of a driveway onto the road when the accident occurred, reports the BBC. His Range Rover was overturned in the crash.

Eyewitnesses revealed the royal had to be pulled to safety from his vehicle, which flipped onto the driver’s side.

He was “conscious” but “shocked and very, very shaken”, BBC royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell said.

Two people in the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries, according to Norfolk Police.

Philip has largely stayed out of the public eye since his retirement in 2017 but has seen driving his car around the royal estate. The Duke is also often spotted on carriage rides through Windsor Great Park.

Philip has made some royal appearances since his retirement, notably attending grandson Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle last May.

Later, reports claimed the Duke was suffering from a broken rib at that occasionAccording to The Sun, the Duke had cracked his rib after slipping in the bathtub.

“The Duke is not a fan of showering and prefers to bathe,” a source told the paper. “But he’s a determined man and nothing was going to stop him attending nor would he take any kind of walking aid.”
