The UK tabloids have been in overdrive with so-called ‘close to the family’ sources saying Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, was not a fan of Prince Harry’s public defense of his new girlfriend Meghan Markle.
The controversial statement was unique for the Royal Family and besides confirming Harry and Meghan were an item, it called for online trolls to stop harassing the actress.
The treatment of Meghan has clearly hit close to home for the brothers after their mother, Princess Diana’s, treatment at the hands of the media. In the few public statements they’ve issued over the years, most have concerned her memory, and we now see it echoed as Harry strives to set the record straight about the limits of speculation when it comes to the women in their lives.
Continuing their transparency around the saga, they have no set the record straight on what the Duke of Cambridge really thinks about his brother’s romance, straight from the horses mouth. Over the weekend Kensington Palace issued the below statement at William’s request:
“The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him.”
William himself has never publicly made a statement about his relationships, except on one occasion prior to Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, entering his life, where the Palace dispelled rumours he was dating good friend Jecca Craig.
The Royal Family have been praised for their modern approach to ‘celeb gossip’.
