"I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life—both through good times and the hardest days,” said William in his tribute to the late royal. “I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her,” he added, speaking of course about his wife, Kate Middleton the Duchess of Cambridge.
"I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!"
He added that he and his wife would "continue to do what he would have wanted and will support the Queen in the years ahead.”
William concluded his statement, “I will miss my grandpa, but I know he would want us to get on with the job."
Following Prince Philip’s death tributes on social media acknowledged the long marriage he had to Queen Elizabeth II.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also paid tribute to the late royal with a statement on their Archewell Foundation website as well as in a personal statement from Harry. While Meghan will not be attending the funeral, Harry will.
This marks a rare return to the U.K. for Harry, who left due to his and Meghan’s treatment by British tabloids. It is also the first visit since their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, which revealed racially biased treatment and the suffering of her mental health at the hands of The Firm.
