Princess Caroline Says She Was Closer To Her Nanny Than Her Mother, Grace Kelly

The awkward truth

Princess Caroline is telling us what she really thinks, revealing that her mother – the one and only Grace Kelly – wasn’t exactly a hands-on parent.

She’s spilled details on her royal upbringing for new book Albert II of Monaco: The Man and the Prince by Isabelle Rivere and Peter Mikelbank, published in honour of Prince Albert’s 60th birthday. And she doesn’t hold back.

“For my brother and I, Maureen was the key figure in our life,” Princess Caroline says. “When we were little, we were probably closer to our nanny than to our parents.

The royal nanny, Maureen Wood, was so popular with her young charges that it was borderline impossible for her to take annual leave. “More often than not, our mother would end up calling her to ask her to come home earlier than planned,” Princess Caroline recalls, adding that she and Prince Albert “were sad for days” whenever she took holidays, People reports.

According to the Daily Mail, Princess Caroline and Prince Albert didn’t even have dinner with their famous parents – Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco – until they were 14 years old.

Royals, eh? Just like us.
