The bride, with her newly dyed locks worn in a loose up-do parted in the centre, reminiscent of Meghan Markle’s own wedding hairstyle, accessorised her dress with the Queen’s Greville Emerald tiara and opted for no veil – a wise choice given the windy weather in Windsor.

In an interview with ITV ahead of the big day, Eugenie remained tight-lipped on details of her dress, but she did reveal that it would be open-backed and would not hide away her scars from her childhood surgery for scoliosis.

The Queen’s granddaughter also invited the NHS surgeons who operated on her to the ceremony at Windsor.

“You can show people your scars and it’s really special,” revealed the Princess.

“I think you can change the way beauty is, and you can show people your scars and I think it’s really special to stand up for that.

“The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, the RNOH, is a huge charity — I’m patron of their appeal and I had an operation when I was 12 on my back, and you’ll see.

“But it’s a lovely way to honour the people who looked after me and a way of standing up for young people who also go through this.”

The couple, who met eight years ago during a ski holiday in Verbier, Switzerland, where Jack was working as a waiter at the time.

“It was love at first sight,” said the Princess.

“Jack’s the kind of guy, when you’re at a party and you can’t find anyone to talk to and you start to panic and you need help, he’ll walk in and he just makes everyone feel so special,” she continued. “He’ll scoop you up and talk to you and make you feel a million dollars.”
