Celine Dion’s musical prowess may have won her many a Grammy Award in the past, but now, it might even secure her an Academy Award nomination.
And it’s all thanks to the upcoming film that Dion has signed on for, alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Outlander‘s Sam Heughan. According to Deadline, the group is set to star in Text For You, an English-language remake of a hit German film.
Chopra Jonas will star as a disheartened widow, who tragically lost her fiancé, and continues to text his old phone number to handle her grief. However, her late fiancé’s phone number has been reassigned to Heughan’s character, who is also going through a similar heartbreak. And thanks to their similar circumstances—and Celine Dion’s influence and music—the two fall in love, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Currently, it is not known if Dion will play herself in the film, but her presence looks to be the reason that the two protagonists end up giving love another chance. Either way, Text For You marks Dion’s acting debut in a film.
Directed by Grace Is Gone‘s Jim Strouse, the original German production is based on Sofie Cramer’s popular novel of the same name, and was one of the highest-grossing films in that region in 2016.
Earlier this month, the singer celebrated the 10th birthday of her twin sons, Nelson and Eddy, sharing throwback photos of the pair as toddlers on Instagram, as well as side-by-side then-and-now comparisons to highlight how much they’ve grown.
Dion shares a similar fate to that of her film’s characters. Having lost her husband, René Angélil, to cancer in 2016, she noted that he is surely just as proud of them as she is.
“Nelson and Eddy, you have been bringing so much joy, love and laughter into our lives every single day for the past 10 years,” Dion captioned the post. “You make me, your big brother and your Dad, who is for sure watching over you, so very proud.”
“Happy birthday my beautiful boys! We love you so very much… – Mom, RC and Dad xx… 🐾,” she concluded.
The release date for the film is yet to be announced, but we can hardly wait.
