Although it seems as though discussions between Meghan, Harry and the royal family – particularly Queen Elizabeth – have been going swimmingly well (for the most part, anyway), a source has told Vanity Fair just how the Queen really feels about the situation.

Despite being publicly supportive of the pairs decision to step down as senior members of the royal family, the monarch understandably, “generally doesn’t want to talk about it,” the anonymous insider shared.

The source continued to explain that the Queen has recognised that the ongoing discussions have and will continue to damage the monarchy as an institution, as well as put unnecessary strain on personal relationships within the family.

“The Queen has been keen to get this resolved because she sees it is damaging to the monarchy and on a personal level I think this has been rather hurtful for her.”

“She has got to the point where she doesn’t want to think about it anymore, she just wants it over and done with.”

The news follows the unexpected announcement from Buckingham Palace banning the duke and duchess from using the word ‘royal’ as part of their branding. The couple responded to the harsh ruling, clarifying that;

“While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘Sussex Royal’ or any iteration of the word ‘Royal’ in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs spring 2020.”

The couple will officially step down on March 31 with their revamped website and social media channels set to launch shortly.

In the meantime, the Sussexes will attend six events in the UK throughout February and March – most notably, they will make an appearance at the Commonwealth Day Service on March 9.
