The curious case of the Queen’s audience room interiors mood board has reached new royal heights, as a photograph of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has seemingly vanished from Her Majesty’s side table.

Back in July, eagle-eyed fans noticed that a never-before-seen photograph of the newlyweds took pride of place in the iconic room at Buckingham Palace. 

The framed image depicted Harry and Meghan beaming at the camera and is widely believed to have been an outtake from the couple’s engagement shoot with photographer Alexi Lubomirski – which the royal duo likely saved as a personal keepsake.

But upon close inspection of a recent photograph taken inside the royal residence on October 22 – which shows the Queen meeting with the High Commissioner for Grenada, Kisha Alexander-Grant – it seems the portrait has been removed.

Instead, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s engagement portrait has been bumped to the front while a shot of Princes Harry and William stands proudly on the right hand side.

Yet before anyone jumps to conclusions, it’s not the first time Her Majesty has swapped the images around. 

Prior to placing the sentimental photograph of Harry and Meghan taken prior to their wedding day on the side table, there reportedly stood a portrait of Princess Anne and her husband Timothy Laurence.

Although the news is sure to spark controversy, as it comes just days after the couple graced the headlines following ITV documentary Harry and Meghan: An African Journey.

In the hour-long programme, the new parents spoke candidly about the realities of living beneath the media spotlight.

In fact, they even teased the idea of swapping Frogmore House in Windsor for life in South Africa.

“I don’t know where we could live in Africa at the moment,” Prince Harry told anchor Tom Bradby. “We’ve just come from Cape Town, that would be an amazing place for us to be able to base ourselves, of course it would.”
