Queer Eye's Jonathan On What Happened When He Stopped Taking Antidepressants

"Don't take this advice" - by Anna McClelland
  • 13 Jul 2018

He’s the most effervescent member of the Fab Five, but Queer Eye grooming expert Jonathan Van Ness has fought the darkness of depression.

In a new interview with Time Out, Van Ness describes his experience with psychotic depression after his stepfather’s death.

“I was 25, and I was watching my stepdad pass away from cancer,” he begins. “I was in yoga every day, I was in therapy, and I was on and then off medication the same year.”

He’s speaking out to urge people not to quit suddenly like he did.

“When I got off of them, I quit cold turkey. It was like, six months of psychotic depression,” he reveals. “So, don’t do that.”
