The parents of Reeva Steenkamp, the model shot dead by Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, are furious over the upcoming US film depicting their daughter’s murder through the perspective of June Steenkamp, her mother.
June and Barry Steenkamp have publicly stressed that they had no knowledge about the film and they are outraged by claims that they collaborated with the project.
"Any impression that is created that this is June’s view, or that the movie is endorsed by the Steenkamp family, is untrue and incorrect," the Steenkamps said in a statement as reported by 9news.
Lifetime Films released the trailer for Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer on Monday.
The film stars Andreas Damm as Oscar Pistorius and German model, Toni Garrn as Reeva Steenkamp, and depicts Pistorius shooting Steenkamp after an argument.
The double leg amputee sprinter is currently serving a six-year jail sentence for the murder of Steenkamp in his house on Valentines Day, 2013. The 2016 sentence was described as ‘lenient’ at the time.
Interestingly, it has just been announced that the Supreme Court of Appeal in South Africa will hear the state’s appeal against Pistorius’ six-year sentence on November 3, pushing for longer time as reported by news.com.au.
The news was announced only days before the release of the trailer.
The film is due to premiere on November 11 in the US.
