Priscilla Ono is not just a celebrity make-up artist. Since teaming up with her most famous almost a decade ago, Ono has become a household name in the beauty industry. Rihanna, an avid make-up lover, is brimming with revolutionary beauty ideas and it's Ono's job to bring them to life — no matter how wild they might be.
“A lot of the time it’s a collaboration. We both sit there, we play, we swatch, sometimes she’ll just have me test and her face and be like ‘let’s play.’ You know, it’s a good time,” she tells marie claire.
2019 is set to be a huge year for Fenty Beauty. Barely 48 hours into the new year, Rihanna took to Instagram to announce fifty new shades of crease-proof PRO Filt'r Concealer and 8 shades of translucent setting powder. Here, we chat with Priscilla aka Fenty Beauty Global Artist to get her expert tips.
On creating the perfect base with PRO Filt'r concealer and setting powder
“We developed the concealers using the same formula as our foundation so they work really well. It has that soft matte finish which for Rihanna is key. She needs her products to be long-wearing and last all day.
“And she hates too much powder, she’s not a powder person. So, she really wanted to create something where you didn’t have to put too much powder, but then we had to create the perfect powder as well!”
On getting crease-free coverage
“Strategically apply powder where you would get greasy, oiling or you would need setting like concealer wise. I personally don’t like putting powder everywhere because then it gives you that over-powdery look. We still want the skin to look really fresh.”
On shaking up the beauty world with inclusive colours
“Rihanna’s changed the market and it’s kind of weird that it took this long for people to get the lightbulb and be like ‘oh yeah, there are more people out there then like, twelve shades.”
On working with Rihanna
“Sometimes I’m like, ‘how does your brain even work?’ I’m so, I’m really in awe of her all the time. She’s so wickedly smart. This is an incredible person, it’s just crazy to me how much detail she puts into everything and how much time she gives everything.”
