There’s A New Frontrunner For Kate Middleton And Prince William’s Baby Name

Sorry, Alice

With all the fuss about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s whirlwind wedding, it’s easy to forget that Prince William and Kate Middleton are expecting their third child in April.

And yes, that’s just one month before said royal wedding.

Of course, bookies are already taking bets on the new royal baby’s name, and as the bets pile in, there are a few clear favourites.

Last month, Jessica Bridge of the Ladbrokes Betting Agency in the U.K. told Newshub that the royal family tends to “regurgitate the same names every few generations so it’s very hard to see a Princess Chardonnay or a Prince Wayne.” Initially, the odds favoured Alice, for girl (which is also the favoured in the bets, even though the royal family are keeping the sex a secret), or Albert, if it’s a boy.

But now, a new name has overtaken Alice.

According to Metro, Mary is now in first place after some serious bets were placed in the north-west of England, with the odds jumping from 20/1 to 7/1.

Mary is one of the Queen’s middle names and was also the name of her grandmother, Queen Mary, who was married to George V.

“Punters are convinced the Duke and Duchess are expecting another little girl, and obviously it would be a lovely touch to honour Her Majesty’s grandmother, but it will be interesting to see if any boys’ names are backed over the coming weeks before the birth,”  Ladbrokes’ Jessica Bridge told Hello.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Princess Mary – sounds pretty cute to us.
