Rugrats Is Being Rebooted! Into A TV Series AND Movie

Excited, us?

If you’re a ‘90s child, prepare for a strong nostalgia hit: Rugrats, aka everyone’s absolute favourite after-school cartoon, is making a comeback.

And not just any kind of comeback: not only is the TV series starring Tommy, Chuckie and evil Angelica being revived, it’s also being made into a movie.

Viacom has begun production on a 26-episode series to be screened on Nickelodeon, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with casting and premiere dates due to be announced shortly. Original show creators Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain are all on board as executive producers.

Paramount Players has also been given the green light for a live-action Rugrats feature film written by Family Guy’s David A. Goodman.

Rugrats is hands-down one of the most celebrated cartoons in TV history, and we are thrilled for a whole new audience to meet these iconic characters in brand-new adventures,” Sarah Levy, chief operating officer at Viacom Media Networks and interim president at Nickelodeon, told the Hollywood Reporter. “What was true in 1991 when the original show premiered is still true today: Kids are fascinated with the world of babies. We can’t wait for today’s kids to meet Tommy, Chuckie and pals.”

Yes, we are aware that we are no longer the target audience for a show like Rugrats, but that doesn’t make us any less excited about this one.
