‘Run The World’ Is The New Series That’s Been Hailed As ‘Sex And The City’ Meets ‘Insecure’

Meet your new TV obsession

While we’ll never tire of watching Sex and the City reruns, when a new series gets hailed as a modern twist on the iconic New York City sitcom, we can’t help but be intrigued. If the first-look trailer is anything to go by, Run the World is about to become our next TV obsession.

The eight-episode, half-hour original series is coming to Starz in 2021, and it follows a group of thirty-somethings living in Harlem, New York. The close group of friends is made up of four Black women, who despite their different goals and personal paths, have one commonality: a dream of ruling the world.

“Run the World is the story of a group of Black women: vibrant, fiercely loyal best friends,” the official description reads. “At its core, it’s an unapologetically female show about enviable friendship and not only surviving but thriving together.”

The upcoming project was created by Leigh Davenport, who says: “I created this series to celebrate the amazing women in my life and to illuminate the special bonds we built living in Harlem while pursuing our post-collegiate dreams.”

Bresha Webb, Amber Stevens West, Andrea Bordeaux and Corbin Reid star as the close-knit group of friends, and they’ll be joined by Stephen Bishop and Living Single icon Erika Alexander.

The creatives behind the show are equally as impressive—including showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser, who has worked on Living Single, Black-ish, and Dear White People. Patricia Field will help with the styling, so we can definitely expect some Sex and the City-worthy fashion.
