The Screen Actor Guild Awards (SAGs) were today dominated by protests against US President Donald Trump’s immigration ban.
Big Bang Theory actor Simon Helberg walked the red carpet holding a sign that read "Refugees welcome", while wife Jocelyn Towne had "Let them in" scrawled across her chest.
Meanwhile SAGs host Ashton Kutcher opened the ceremony by welcoming the audience and adding, “And everyone in airports that belong in my America… You are a part of who we are, and we love you, and we welcome you.”
Later in the evening actor Julia Louis-Dreyfus also denounced the ban, saying that her father fled Nazi-occupied France. She described the ban - which blocks foreigners from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the US for the next 120 days - as a “blemish” on US history.
Trump’s immigration ban was also touched upon when David Harbour accepted the award for Stranger Things. However, his comments were somewhat overshadowed by Winona Ryder’s animated facial expressions.
