In times of chaos, it’s simplicity that stands the test of time and gentle nods to the past that bring us comfort – and this speaks to nothing better than the pieces we spend our days in.
As Anthony Vaccarello reflects on the year that was, and imagines our reentry to society, the Creative Director of Saint Laurent took inspiration from the expansive space, time and isolation of the desert.
“The desert, to me, symbolises that yearn for serenity, open space, a slower rhythm. The clothes are also softer, the spirit of the collection is more gentle, stripped back,” muses Vaccarello.
Adopting fluid-form silk, fine knitwear and the House’s signature suiting, Vaccarello’s pieces frame silhouettes, without limiting the body’s movements. Vaccarello continues: “I wanted to focus on the essence of things. I think it’s a sign of the times. But I didn’t want anything bleak or heavy.”
For pairings that enhance the Saint Laurent woman as she moves throughout the day, the collection also indulges the comfort of jersey, soft-spots for rider shorts and nostalgic shapes of the sixties in a contemporary monochrome palette.
Finished with undergarments designed to be admired and chrome-touched accessories, Vaccarello also brings elegance and an understated luxury to masculine-leaning jackets, vests and jumpsuits.
