Selena Gomez Is Making An Amazing Gesture For LGBTQ Rights

She's taking a stand the best way she knows how.

Selena Gomez is in the midst of her Revival Tour shows, but she’s decided to take a stand for her upcoming North Carolina show.

There has been controversy in North Carolina recently over a bill that has just passed discriminating against LGBT individuals. The bill makes it illegal for transgender people to use bathrooms that do not match the sex on their birth certificate, and some musicians are not happy about it.

Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas have cancelled their shows in North Carolina in protest, however Selena Gomez is taking quite a different approach.

She will be donating proceeds from the show to defeating the bill, and she made a statement to Billboard about her decision.

“I am very fortunate to have grown up in a home where I learned from an early age that everyone should be treated equally,” she said.

“I went back and forth on whether I should cancel my concert in North Carolina and ultimately I think what is right for me is to move forward with my show and donate a portion of the proceeds to Equality North Carolina and their effort to defeat this act of discrimination.”

“I’ve been reassured the venue I will be performing in has gender neutral bathrooms as I want everyone coming to my show to be welcomed. I feel like my generation is the most progressive one yet and believe there will be a day soon when laws like HB2 won’t even be a consideration.”

Go, Sel!
