Selena Gomez Details Her 90 Days In Rehab

"It was the best thing I ever could've done"

Selena Gomez is arguably the world’s biggest pop star – with 124m Instagram followers watching her every move, a famous musician boyfriend, and movies roles, fashion partnerships and TV shows coming out her ears, the 25-year-old has the world at her fingertips.

But last year, when she cancelled her world tour without explanation and disappeared off the grid, many were concerned for the singer’s health.

Selena had checked into rehab to focus on her mental health and exhaustion, which she openly addressed in a moving speech – and her first public appearance since.

“I had to stop. ‘Cause I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside,” Selena told the audience. “And I kept it altogether enough to where I would never let you down but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”

Now, in her cover interview with InStyle US, Selena details the 90 days she spent away from the world, saying: “It was the best thing that I ever could’ve done.”

“I had no phone, nothing, and I was scared. But it was amazing, and I learned a lot.”

“I was in the countryside and never did my hair; I took part in equine therapy, which is so beautiful,” she reveals. “And it was hard, obviously. But I knew what my heart was saying, and I thought, ‘OK, I think this has helped me become stronger for other people.’”

Now, Selena reveals she feels a lot better, but has continued seeing a psychologist.

“I go to therapy. I believe in that and talking about where you are,” she says. “But I’m in a really, really healthy place.”

Something that contributes to her current happiness is her boyfriend The Weeknd né Abel Tesfaye.

“It’s great,” she says of her relationship. “I don’t depend on one area of my life to make me happy. It’s really important for me to love and nourish my friends and family and to make sure that I never get influenced by a guy,” she continued.

“I’ve wanted to be in a strong headspace for years, and I really wasn’t. Before, I was so young and easily influenced, and I’d feel insecure. You want someone to add to your life, not to complete you, if that makes sense. I’m lucky because he’s more of a best friend than anything else.”
