“He may or may not have been texting me,” she revealed, adding that he “may or may not” have asked her out to grab coffee “a few times”. However, this isn't the first time that Hernan has brought up Affleck. Speaking to the Today show on April 23, she explained that she and the Deep Water actor "talked for a little bit", but in the end, they never met up.
“We have the Boston connection,” she explained on Selling Sunset, adding, “that was his opening pick-up line”.
Since the episode went to air on April 22, Affleck and his representatives have released a statement denying the claims.
“Raya has confirmed that he has not been an active member for several years,” a representative for the actor told People magazine.
To rebut, a representative for Hernan then clarified to People that the conversation she's referring to, took place back in 2019—perhaps we took her use of "right before" a little too literally.
Of course, news that Ben was an active member on Raya is hardly surprising. Back in May 2021, a TikTok video went viral that proved Affleck was very much a member of the dating app.
Made by user Nivine Jay, she captioned a video of her pacing with the caption, "Thinking of the time I matched with Ben Affleck on Raya and thought it was fake so I unmatched him and he sent me a video on Instagram".
The video in question left the internet feeling, well, somewhat haunted. Using his front facing camera, the Gone Girl actor stands rather close to the lens and asks: "Nivine, why did you unmatch me? It's me." However, Affleck never denied that he'd been using the app, responding to the TikTok with a now-deleted Instagram post, writing, “HA, you got me. I’m dating”, as per People.
Whether Hernan was completely transparent about their supposed interaction, we'll never know. But what we do know is that Affleck would be a welcome addition to Selling Sunset—here's hoping he makes a guest appearance in season six.
