Um Excuse Me, ‘Sex And The City’ Planned To Kill Off Mr. Big

Outrageous

Remember when Kim Cattrall refused to be a part of Sex and the City 3? Now we know why she pulled out of the much-anticipated threequel: they were planning to kill off Mr. Big.

In the Origins podcast, host James Andrew Miller, asked Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth (Mr. Big himself) about the scrapped third instalment.

According to Miller, Mr. Big was set to die “relatively early” in the SATC 3 screenplay. Dun dun dunnnn.

The plot twist explains a lot: specifically why Kim Cattrall didn’t want to be a part of the film. Apparently, the focus on Big’s death and Carrie Bradshaw’s reaction made Cattrall super uninterested in playing Samantha Jones again. We get it, SJ isn’t really the supportive, sorrowful type.

“People close to Kim believe that the script didn’t have a lot to offer the character of Samantha. They point to the fact that it calls for Mr. Big to die of a heart attack in the shower, relatively early on in the film, making the remainder of the movie more about how Carrie recovers from Big’s death than about the relationship between the four women,” said Miller.

Although Noth didn’t get to read the script in which his character keeled over, he told Miller that he had heard the SATC 3 screenplay was “superior” to the first two films. Which, let’s be honest, wouldn’t be that hard.

“I just hate the cornball shit and I thought it was just really sentimental and overly romantic without any feet in realism,” Noth admitted, referring to the final scene in the first Sex and the City film.

So there you have it, Kim Cattrall may have deprived us of another SATC film, but she saved us from weeping at the death of Mr. Big. Thanks, we guess.
