Shay Mitchell Revealed Her Baby’s Gender In The Most OTT Amazing Way

You've never seen a gender reveal like this before

After announcing her pregnancy last week on Instagram, Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell has shared what is perhaps the most crazy gender reveal we’ve ever seen. In a six-minute video titled ‘Do NOT Try This Gender Reveal at Home’ posted to her YouTube page, Mitchell and her boyfriend Matte Babel find out the sex of their firstborn child with help of their friends – who literally almost die in the process.

The video starts with Mitchell having a scan and the doctor asking if the soon-to-be mum wants to find out the sex of her child, to which she replies, ‘we’re finding out tonight.’ It then cuts to Mitchell saying she thinks it’s a boy, before showing the couple calling their friends and family and taking a poll to see what gender everyone guesses.

As the couple sit in their backyard waiting to find out whether they’re having a boy or a girl, the door opens to show a blue power ranger, before a pink walks out behind. The power rangers start fighting and then push each other into the pool. Realising they can’t breathe with their masks on, they quickly rip them off to reveal that they’re two close friends and then keep fighting until the pink power ranger wins: it’s a girl!

Afterwards, the blue power ranger says, “OMG, we almost died, that was so bad,” revealing the wet masks stuck to their faces and they were quickly trying to pull them off to get some air. Turns out Mitchell’s warning to not try the gender reveal at home was serious!

Mitchell revealed her pregnancy with a topless photo posted to Instagram. “Does this mean I’m allowed to drive in the carpool lane at all times now?” she captioned the image, which has amassed over 4.7 million likes.

The 32-year-old has reportedly been quietly dating Babel, a TV host, since January. The couple’s happy announcement comes after Mitchell shared in January that she suffered a miscarriage last year.

She wrote at the time in her Instagram Stories: “We all have to deal with various struggles and challenges in life. And sometimes it’s easier to only showcase the good times on social media, which is what leads many people to criticize it for its lack of authenticity.

“Having so many people follow me on Instagram and read my posts is both incredibly humbling and hugely uplifting. The support and affection that so many of you show me lifts me up during even my darkest days, one of which happened last year after I miscarried and lost the child of my hopes and dreams.”

“In the spirit of the new year, I think that we need to remember that we are all on this journey together—in good times and in bad, and to remind ourselves that we seldom really know or understand the struggles and hardships that other people are going through.”

Mitchell is releasing a documentary series about her pregnancy on YouTube titled Almost Ready. It premieres July 17.
