During the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s five-day royal tour of Pakistan, Kate Middleton flexed her diplomatic muscles in a series of traditional ensembles from homegrown designers including Maheen Khan and Gul Ahmed. As self-confessed fashion followers, we counted nine outfit changes in total but it turns out, we totally missed one (refreshingly affordable) look.

According to an eagle-eyed royal fan, the couple attended a previously unannounced engagement on October 15 ahead of a formal reception held by the British High Commissioner, Thomas Drew, in Islamabad. For the daytime event, the mother-of-three proved The Firm know how to tackle the high street too in a floral frock by British label Ghost.

Priced at $390, the brand’s ‘Avery’ dress it’s a far cry from her usual Kensington Palace closet stuffed with the likes of London-based brands including Alexander McQueen, Erdem and Goat. With clashing floral prints, sheer sleeves and a chic tie-belt, it’s the perfect transseasonal dress that’ll see us through to summer in one fell swoop.

Sadly (though not surprisingly), the trophy piece soon fell under the spell of the ‘Kate Effect’ and promptly garnered sell-out status. But we managed to track down the seriously covetable dress on ASOS so we’ll just keep refreshing the page until it’s restocked…

If that isn’t enough to please the Duchess of Cambridge’s committed legion of fashion devotees, the royal changed into a bespoke Jenny Packham gown for evening celebrations alongside Prince William. To complete the winning ensemble, she donned earrings by O’Nitaa and draped a co-ordinating dupatta over her shoulder.

Following the couple’s latest royal tour, the Duchess of Cambridge surprised fans by posting her first personal Instagram message since joining the royal family in 2011. In a social media move which delighted us all, Kate spoke candidly about her time spent in the country – specifically her experiences at local children’s charity, SOS Village.

“The community at the SOS Village is built around family – and the best possible family you could imagine – where everyone comes together to nurture, love and protect the children in their care,” she wrote.

In a surprisingly personal touch, the royal even signed off the post with just her first name: “These vulnerable children, many who have come through traumatic circumstances, are nurtured in this caring environment and are able to form these quality relationships that they so desperately need to thrive. – Catherine.”
