Sienna Miller Reveals How She Co-Parents With Her Ex

“He’s my best friend in the entire world.”

Last year, Sienna Miller and her five-year-old daughter Marlowe relocated to New York from London. Miller’s move came shortly after breaking off her engagement to actor Tom Sturridge, Marlowe’s father and Miller’s partner since 2011.

Despite the split, Miller still shares her world with Sturridge for the sake of their daughter. She calls him “my best friend in the entire world,” and they regularly stay over at each other’s houses to ensure a stable home-life for Marlowe.

Miller says Marlowe is her number one priority and that becoming a mother changed her outlook on life. “You have a child and it’s someone that’s more important to you,” she says. “At the same time, I’m a working mother, I love my job and I want her to grow up with that example. My priorities have changed in that I have another human to really deeply consider when I’m making decisions, and so the work I tend to do is stuff that I love and I’m very drawn to.”

And this month, she was drawn to The Lost City of Z, the story of early 1900s British explorer Percy Fawcett. Charlie Hunnam plays Fawcett and Miller plays his wife Nina, who was left to raise their two sons alone for years as her husband ventured into the unchartered reaches of the Amazon jungle.

Miller enjoys being a mother on and off screen. “I think with parenthood there comes a depth. You reshape in some way because it’s such a profound experience,” she says.

The September issue of marie claire starring Sienna Miller is on sale Thursday.
