"In astrology, a solar eclipse could bring a bold beginning, setting us on a new path that we hadn’t imagined for ourselves. While it may be surprising—or not something you even expected—a solar eclipse has a bigger vision in store for us. We have a finite focus as human beings, and it’s natural to concentrate on what’s in front of us. At times, this can limit our perspectives, and cause us to miss out on opportunities.
"This is when we should leap into new (and generally improved) terrain, even if we feel forced there by circumstances beyond our control," the Astro Twins revealed.
As for this week's new moon, a "new moon" happens when the moon is in line with the sun. There are 12 new moons a year, each corresponding with a different sun sign. But this one's a little different since it's happening along with a solar eclipse (a.k.a. when the moon blocks out the sun for people watching on Earth).
Oh, and it's all going down, er, up in the sign of Cancer, meaning you'll crave security around this time
As if that weren’t enough, we have another Mercury retrograde. Mercury, the planet governing, technology, travel and information, will turn retrograde from July 7 to 31.
To help you navigate this cosmic minefield, we asked astrologer Tanya Obreza to share her weekly horoscopes below. Scroll to discover what the new moon and solar eclipse have in store for your zodiac sign.
If you celebrate your birthday this week:
Your Year Ahead For some time now, life has felt like an obstacle course. Endless trials have tested Cancerians, but you’ve stayed in the race; gaining patience, wisdom and spirit. These assets are carried through this year, when you move onto firmer ground professionally, financially and emotionally. As a further reward, the planets unite to restore considerably more than was originally lost. Saturn encourages a more stable approach to life and love; Jupiter brings professional prosperity, and Neptune reaffirms your friendships. Each planet will guide you in its own way. Listen to the messages and few dreams will go unfulfilled.
Aries (March 21 - April 20)
If you can command some sort of respect in this self-serving world, you’re not doing too badly. This week, most Ariens fare better than most. Perhaps it’s because you’ve finally sorted your thoughts into coherent order. Suddenly, it all makes sense. After midweek, look out for new ways to increase your income.
Taurus (April 21 - May 20)
A painful situation is coming to an end. Someone’s lies or deception may have caused heartache. Thankfully, the worst is over and you can now recover some equilibrium. Accept that life brings endings - there’s no reason to hang on to something that may never work. If necessary, reach out to friends for help.
Gemini (May 21 - June 21)
A kindred spirit may present an exciting proposal or opportunity. Sure, you prefer to be your own unique mastermind. Geminis like to have the first idea and the last word, but this is one time when you should at least consider another viewpoint. Right now, teamwork can prove profitable.
Cancer (June 22 - July 22)
It’s funny how things can improve once you decide to “surrender” your worries to the universe. The next few weeks should bring progress on a matter that’s been irritating you for ages. Ironically, this comes at a time when the issue in question hardly seems to matter any more. Or so you thought.
Leo (July 23 - August 23)
Feeling tired? Little wonder, Leo. It’s been a hectic time with much stress and little rest. But you can’t keep burning the candle at both ends, and then be surprised when the flame burns out. Take this week to nurture yourself. Find a spa and pamper. The world won’t fall apart if you rest. You’ll be back in the thick of it soon enough.
Virgo (August 24 - September 22)
Why can’t everyone be as reasonable as you? Perhaps world peace wouldn’t seem so elusive. But don’t worry about the grander issues of life just now. There are more urgent matters in your own back yard to attend to. Should a close friend or relative request help, offer support - but in a way that encourages them to become more independent.
Libra (September 23 - October 23)
You may be cash-strapped, but don’t give others the impression that you’re desperate for money. Worrying about income makes no difference but it could attract dishonest individuals. There are plenty of sharks out there all-too-happy to feed on trusting Librans. Stay silent about your income and expenditure.
Scorpio (October 24 - November 22)
Daily routine is happily abandoned when you fall into the company of exciting new friends. For singles, the cosmos conjures up someone especially interesting. For those already coupled, passions reach boiling point - then settle to a steady simmer. With much of work on hold, discover more leisurely ways of spending the week ahead.
Sagittarius (November 23 - December 21)
It’s a week to be cautious because someone’s being unscrupulous. It’s possible that this individual is trying cheat you out of something that’s rightfully yours. It could be, too, that an envious colleague wants to make you look bad, just to boost their own reputation. End result: head-on conflict. Keep a distance from trouble, if you can.
Capricorn (December 22 - January 20)
There’s no one quite like a Capricorn to scoff in the face of adversity and swing a run of bad luck in your favour. Still, you might like to know that many power planets are on your side too, and striking canny deals on your behalf. It’s all looking good - just don’t self-sabotage. Remember to respect financial limitations.
Aquarius (January 21 - February 18)
Think twice before saying anything in the heat of the moment, or you may regret it. This is particularly important at work, as you could upset a colleague. At home, too, don’t mention subjects that are taboo. Distract raw nerves with research or study - if nothing else, you’ll prepare for the time when choices can be guided by objectivity.
Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
This week an important life cycle comes to an end. With daily routine disrupted, prepare for the unexpected. Don’t be overly-daunted if presented with something new. Try to stay flexible - because if you choose to stay stuck in that all-too-familiar-rut, frustrating times lie ahead. It’s time to for new beginnings.
