Sophie Monk Opens Up About Her Split From Stu Laundy

"I wanted to believe it so bad"

Sophie Monk has opened up about what really happened in her relationship with her reality TV love, Stu Laundy, clearing up the rumours that the publican found out about their split over Instagram.

“I wanted to get married, settle down, have children,” Sophie tells A Current Affair. “I don’t get the opportunity to meet people that often,” she explains of her decision to try and find love on The Bachelorette.

And for a while, at least, it did seem like Sophie finally got her happy ending.

“I’ve never been as happy as that moment,” she says of the series’ finale with Stu.

But once they the show finished, Sophie says things went downhill quickly.

“I think afterwards, once you go out into the real world, I just realised we’re so different. You’re in a bubble and you come out of that.”

“I kept trying to make it work,” she trails off. “I gave it my best shot, I didn’t go into this half-arsed, I went into it full and happy to commit.”

Though Stu claims he found out about their split via Sophie’s Instagram (above), she says it all fell apart when they were in Canada for Christmas and New Year’s.

“It ended in Canada,” she says, “we didn’t break up over Instagram.”

“I think when you go on holiday with someone you really get to know someone and it was just yeah, it got to the point that, again all I can say is that we’re just very different people,” she continues.

“You clash when you’ve got different morals.”

“I’m disappointed,” Sophie says, before tearing up and walking off camera.

On life after Stu, Soph says she’s definitely planning on having children – with or without a partner.

Currently, she says she’s looking into freezing her eggs.

“I’m definitely doing it. We’re looking into [starting a family] now. I definitely want babies.”

On whether she’s looking for love again, Sophie, in her classic funny fashion, says: “I think I’ll give it a week. I’m a bit tired.”

But in all seriousness? “I believe in fairytales still,” she says. “I love love.”

And we love you, Sophie Monk.
