It’s hard to imagine a world without our favourite couple, Jophie, better known as Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas. But according to the Game of Thrones actress, that world was very much a possibility.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Sophie admitted that they both got cold feet just days before their surprise Las Vegas wedding. “It was the worst day of our lives. For a second we both had cold feet,” she told the publication, adding “then 24 hours later we were both like, ‘Nevermind’.”
In the same interview, Turner took a refreshingly honest approach to her relationship. “I was going through this phase of being very mentally unwell. He [Joe] was like, ‘I can’t be with you until you love yourself, I can’t see you love me more than you love yourself’.”
She added, “That was something, him doing that. I think he kind of saved my life, in a way.”
Speaking to marie claire Australia earlier this year, Turner spoke about her rise to fame. The actress, who stars in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix, is refreshingly honest about the way her mental health was impacted by fame – particularly traversing her awkward teenage years in front of millions, many of whom were quick to let her know what they thought. “I have experienced mental illness firsthand and I’ve seen what it can do to the people around [the sufferers] as well,” she says. “My metabolism suddenly decided to fall to the depths of the ocean and I started to get spotty and gain weight, and all of this was happening to me on camera.”
Then came pressure from film and television studios to lose weight. How, as a young girl, did she cope with that? “Therapy,” Turner says with a smile. “Everyone needs a therapist, especially when people are constantly telling you you’re not good enough and you don’t look good enough. I think it’s necessary to have someone to talk to, and to help you through that.”
