What is the plot of Spencer?
Spencer is based on a pivotal three-day window in Diana's life in the early 1990s. The narrative follows the Princess' major realisation that her marriage is unravelling, and she reevaluates her life.
It will be largely set at the family's Sandringham Estate, and will take place over the Christmas break. It's expected to touch on several other themes alongside her fragmented marriage—Diana's incredibly close bond with her sons and her troubling journey as a royal.
Discussing the film's premise, director Pablo Larrain said: "The key is how she discovers during the process of the movie that what she really needs to do is be who she wants to be... And by that, it doesn’t mean she needs to be next to anyone, to be part of anything, but herself and her own children."
Who is in the cast of Spencer?
Kristen Stewart is set to take the lead role as Diana, with those first film stills giving fans a perfect taste of what's to come.
Previously of Twilight notoriety, Stewart explained how excited she was to take on such an iconic role: "I haven't been this excited about playing a part, by the way, in so long," she told InStyle.
Playing Prince Charles will be British actor Jack Farthing. The 35-year-old is known for his roles in TV series Poldark, and he also starred in Netflix film, Love Wedding Repeat last year.
Spencer will also star famed actors Timothy Spall and Sally Hawkins.
When will Spencer be released?
Spencer is set to hit theatres on November 5. It will also premiere at the Toronto and Venice Film festivals, suggesting it'll be eyed up as an Awards Season favourite come early 2022.
