Stan’s ‘Des’ Is The Spine-Tingling Series Every True Crime Fan Needs On Their Must-Watch List

Calling all true crime devotees!

There’s no denying it, true crime is still having its time in the sun.

From Dirty John to I’ll Be Gone In The Dark, true crime stories continue to take over our screens, which means that there’s no better time to add another gripping series to your must-watch list.

Enter: Des.

While the name may not sound particularly chill-inducing, the story itself says otherwise. The latest series to hit Stan is based on a biography called Killing for Company: The Story Of a Man Addicted To Murder by Brian Masters, and follows the crimes of Dennis Nilsen who remains one of the most infamous criminal cases in the history of the United Kingdom.

Intriguing, right? Below, we’ve collated everything you need to know about the new series, including where you can stream it in Australia.

What Is The Plot of Des?

Des follows the life and crimes of Dennis Nilsen. Also known as the “Kindly Killer”, Nilsen was a Scottish civil servant who was charged with the murder of many young boys and young men at his home between 1978 to 1983.

Nilsen was only caught after Detective Chief Inspector Peter Jay was called to an apartment complex on February 9 1983, after he received reports that suspicious material was blocking the drains. From there, Nilsen was arrested and charged with six counts of murder and two attempted murders.

Preferring to be called ‘Des’, the story follows the reasoning behind Nilsen’s crimes rather than discovering who the murder is. Meaning that if you prefer to hear about the psychology behind serial killers then Des is for you.

Who Is In The Cast of Des?

For those concerned over the believability of the series, you are sure to be pleasantly surprised. Playing the notorious serial killer Dennis Nilsen is David Tennant, who many may recognise from his signature Scottish accent and his roles in Good Omens and Doctor Who.

Joining Tennant in Des is Daniel Mays (Line Of Duty) and Jason Watkins (The Crown) starring as Detective Peter Jay and Brian Masters, who work on cracking the case.
