Long before the Met Gala became the world's most exclusive party, the world's major celebrities instead frequented the infamous Studio 54 nightclub in midtown Manhattan.
Before its closure in the mid-1980s, the famous celebrity haunt was well-known for its high-profile guests and influence on fashion, which peaked in the late '70s and early '80s. With an iron-clad guest list, it was practically impossible to get in unless you were somebody—and in a time before Instagram and Snapchat, celebrities really let their hair down on the dance floor.
At that time, the club was frequented by the likes of Andy Warhol, Mick and Bianca Jagger, Grace Jones, Liza Minnelli, Elizabeth Taylor, and many more iconic stars, who showed their faces what seemed like every weekend.
Away from the nightclub's more controversial aspects, it's hard not to recognise Studio 54 for its influence on fashion—something that's still visible in new collections by the likes of Celine and Saint Laurent.
