If you love the wholesome, comfort of Gilmore Girls but live for the drama of Big Little Lies, Sweet Magnolias is your next must-watch.
An adaptation of Sherryl Wood’s popular book series of the same name, the 10-episode Netflix series is about three best-friends who lift each other up, while juggling love triangles, family, and careers in their small, Southern town of Serenity.
The story follows on protagonist Maddie Townsend, who is looking to fulfil her lifelong dream of opening a spa with her two best-friends, after her husband leaves her for his pregnant mistress.
The series is already a hit, with fans beginning to compare it to a Southern-version of Gilmore Girls. But in addition to its Big Little Lies-style cliffhanger, it looks even more promising.
If you need further convincing, the cast is packed full of iconic stars. Leading the series is JoAnna Garcia, whom you may recognise from Gossip Girl and American Pie 2, and on-screen husband Chris Klein, also from American Pie.
The rest of the trio includes Jamie Lynn Spears, who we all know as the Britney Spear’s little sister, Brooke Elliott who was made famous by her role in Drop Dead Diva, and Heather Headley, famously known from Chicago Med, who plays Garcia’s on-screen lifelong friend.
The first season of Sweet Magnolias is currently available to stream on Netflix.
