The mother of a toddler who was found dead in her home in Sydney’s southwest has been charged with murder.

The 36-year-old mother was arrested and charged with murder overnight and is expected to front court today.

The two-year-old girl was found in the bathtub inside the home after a family friend raised concerns with police after not seeing the child for a few days.

The friend had initially asked a neighbor to borrow a ladder before she was able to get inside the house where she discovered the child’s body, reports SMH

The coroner will prepare a report on the death. However, the daughter of a neighbour told The Daily Telegraph that the woman who lived in the house had suffered a car accident at the weekend.

“A family friend (of the woman’s) came over and told my parents she had a car accident up in the mountains,” Ms Fransisco said. “She didn’t seem like the kind of mother who’d leave her daughter alone.”

Another neighbour, Pat Ingram, told The Daily Telegraph that a woman came to her house inquiring about the child. “Someone knocked on our door, asked if we had seen the little girl. She said she was concerned for the child’s welfare. She said she was the next of kin.

“She asked if I had a ladder. I told her if she was really concerned, she should ring the police.”
