Sylvia Jeffreys Hits Back At Claims She’s Pregnant

Get 'em Sylvia

Sylvia Jeffreys has expertly shut down claims she’s expecting her first child, after a tabloid published photos of the former TODAY host’s “growing belly.”

On Wednesday evening, the 32-year-old journalist spotted, and swiftly responded to, a headline that read: “Anything to tell us? Sylvia Jeffreys fuels pregnancy rumours as she gently touches her tummy in a linen shift-dress during casual outing in Sydney.”

Displayed underneath the article were photos of Sylvia in Sydney’s Double Bay with what was described as her “growing baby bump.”

Jeffreys took a screenshot and shared the article headline on her Twitter page and in her Instagram Stories.

“Nope, not pregnant,” she wrote alongside the image. “The only one fuelling that rumour would be you. But thanks for the subtle reminder to wear spanx on all casual outings.”

A Twitter user then replied to Jeffreys, stating, “If you gently touch your tummy, what are we to expect?”

“That I was feeling very satisfied with my breakfast,” replied Jeffreys.

Yesterday, Margot Robbie made headlines after she made it known reporters should stop asking her – or any woman – when she plans to get pregnant.

The Oscar-nominated actress, who is on a press tour promoting her new film Mary, Queen Of Scotts, says she finds herself fielding baby questions from reporters every day.

“It made me really angry,” she told the Radio Times, speaking of the pressure on her character, Queen Elizabeth l, to reproduce.“How dare some old guy dictate what I can and can’t do when it comes to motherhood or my own body?”

“I got married and the first question in almost every interview is, ‘Babies? When are you having one?’ Robbie, who wed British film producer Tom Ackerly in December 2016, continued.

“I’m so angry that there’s this social contract. You’re married, now have a baby. Don’t presume. I’ll do what I’m going to do.”

Moreover, at the heart of it, asking women about their reproductive plans is sexist. As New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern famously put it, when does a man ever get quizzed publically on his plans to start a family? The experience of parenthood is not unique to women, yet the question almost always falls on us.

For the record, Margot has her plate plenty full right now – she and Ackley have their own production company Lucky Chap. “I wasn’t seeing many scripts where I wanted to play the female role — I always wanted to play the male role,” she revealed. “So I was like, ‘Well, we’ll start making our own films because we can’t just sit around forever and wait for them to come along.’”
