The Aussie Retailer Making Us Fall In Love With Loungewear Again

Because yes, you can wear sweats outside the house

We’re calling it: 2020 was the year of the sweatpant. With nowhere to be and no in-person meetings to speak of, tailored pants were swiftly replaced by anything with an elasticated waistband.

This year, we’re legally allowed to leave the house again – thank god – but our fondness for soft clothing hasn’t gone away. And luckily for us, we don’t have to revert back to pre-pandemic attire. Trenery’s latest collection marries comfort with style, thanks to elevated lounge pieces that bridge the gap between indoor and outdoor wear.

Here, we explain how to stay comfy while still looking somewhat put together:

At Home

Trenery winter

Alpaca Rib Detail Knit, $179.00; Cotton Ponte Marle Lounge Pant with Drawcord, $99.95; both from Trenery.

Home is where the heart sweatpants are. Opt for trackpants in a neutral hue to give them a more high end feel. Up top, throw on a statement knit for warmth and easy movement. Crafted from a premium blend of extra-fine merino and alpaca, Trenery’s Alpaca Rib Detail Knit is relaxed yet polished enough to wear with sweats, jeans or trousers.

Running Errands

Trenery winter

Merino Button Front Coat, $299.00; Merino Blend Sporty Pullover, $129.00; Cotton Ponte Marle Lounge Pant with Drawcord, $99.95; all at Trenery.

The best way to elevate your at-home attire? Throw a coat over it. A camel-coloured coat – either a trench or wool blend will do – adds instant elegance to an otherwise casual outfit. Accessorise with some gold jewellery and your best trainers, and suddenly your tracksuit is appropriate for a morning of running errands in the city.

Brunch Date

Trenery winter

Ponte Legging, $89.95; Merino Cashmere Rib Mock Neck Knit, $279.00; Cotton Modal Stripe Longline Shirt, $129.00; all at Trenery.

In winter, layers are everything. For obvious reasons, more garments equals more warmth but in a styling sense, adding layers broadens your outfit options, too. If you’re headed to a casual weekend brunch date, make the most of your wardrobe by pairing leggings with a striped longline shirt and a loose oversized knit. As for shoes? Sneakers should do the trick.

Casual Friday

Trenery winter

Merino Cashmere Cable Rollneck, $199.00; Cotton Ponte Lounge Pant, $99.95; both from Trenery.

Casual Fridays in the office is a great idea – that is, until you’re staring at your wardrobe at 7:45am in the morning with nothing to wear. Casual-meets-office-appropriate attire can be tricky. Our advice? Nail the basics. Donning a quality rollneck knit gives the impression that you put in effort, while a pair of smart-yet-relaxed cotton pants (or ‘dressy’ track pants, if you will) dials up the comfort factor. It’s a win-win!
