Matty J Will Be The First Australian Bachelor To Have An ‘Overnight’ Date

Which girl will he bring to the ultimate romantic spot?

Matty J is reportedly set to become the first Australian Bachelor contestant to use the infamous ~fantasy suite~.

The Bachelor will be bringing one lucky lady to a romantic overnight retreat in next week’s episode, reports OK! Magazine. And if that’s not exciting enough for you, it will apparently be the second date for this contestant.

In the US version (and most other versions around the globe) the Bachelor or Bachelorette has the opportunity to bring the top three contestants for a romantic and intimate evening in the fantasy suite, where there are no cameras.

The room has a history of being used for hookups and, of course, speaking candidly without a team of producers and cameramen all up in your business.

While Matty’s retreat doesn’t follow the traditional ‘fantasy suite’ format, we’re still very interested to see how this one pans out.

Tim Robards famously declined the option for a fantasy suite in Australia’s first ever season, and the option was never offered on-screen again.

“I think I did the guys in because I was the first one to say ‘no overnight dates’ and they followed suit so I think I’ve screwed it up for everyone,” he told The Daily Telegraph last year.

Hopefully, producers introduce the option from now on, as whatever contestants choose to do – or not do – behind closed doors is up to them, but let’s be honest: the aftermath would make for far better TV than the faux feuds and manufactured drama.
