Why ‘Bachelorette’ Contestant Ab Sow Is Being Praised For Rejecting Becky Miles

The fans have spoken

The first night of The Bachelorette Australia 2020 certainly went off with a bang. Counting the tears, rejections and lots of dancing, it was quite the spectacle.

But one moment that left viewers gobsmacked was when suitor Ab Sow declined Becky Miles’ rose, making history as the first contestant to leave the showof their own volitionduring the series’ premiere

Though he only seemed to have eyes for Becky upon his (very memorable) red carpet appearance, the videographer looked forlorn when she called his name out at the rose ceremony

“Becky, I’m really sorry,” the 27-year-old began.

“You’re an absolutely beautiful girl but, unfortunately, I cannot accept this rose.”

He then took the 30-year-old aside and quietly admitted to her that he didn’t see a future with her.

“I just don’t think I’m the right person for you,” he said.

“It’s only right that I’m honest with you now instead of only letting you know down the road.”

But despite having just been shut down, Becky took Ab’s decision in stride.

“I really appreciate your honesty,” she told him.

Viewers of the show were also quick to praise Ab’s response and we’re inclined to agree, particularly given that many past contestants have been accused of applying for the show with questionable intentions.

One look at the sheer rise in Instagram followers that befalls contestants that make it far in the competition and it’s easy to see why some people may see the show’s platform as a way of boosting their public profile.
