The following contains spoilers for The Bold Type‘s series finale.
After five years with the trio of Scarlet—(Katie Stevens), Kat (Aisha Dee) and Sutton (Meghann Fahy)—it was finally time to farewell the fashion cupboard for good.
The series finale, while devastating for fans, finally gave us some of the much-needed closure we've been longing for. Jane realised that she wanted to continue writing and was inspired to travel the world after finding a photo of her late mum in Paris, while Jacqueline put the future of the magazine in the capable hands of Kat, who takes on the role of editor-in-chief—how they didn't come to this conclusion sooner, we'll never know.
As for relationships? Kat and Adena (Nikohl Boosheri) finally got back together, while Richard realised that he wanted to be with Sutton more than his desire to have children and sparked their reunion. Jane, on the other hand, perhaps had the most surprising of finishes, with creators choosing to leave her single at the end (of course, leaving one last finale run-in with Pinstripe).
The episode was not without its bittersweet moments either, with expertly weaved in nods to the pilot. From the scream at the subway station becoming one above ground on the streets of New York City (because, you know, growth!), and of course, the ending hug in the fashion cupboard (feels upon feels!). While we'll miss Jane, Sutton and Kat, we can't help but feel this was the perfect ending to the series, and while sometimes it admittedly ignored the realities of the magazine world (note we haven't mentioned the travesty that was the "dot-com" plotline), it explored the complexities of female friendships and personal growth in your 20s, and for that, we'll always remember them fondly.
