The Queen was famously made monarch on February 6, 1952 but her crowning didn't take place until more than a year later on June 2, 1953.
But we have to admit that although we pride ourselves on being committed groupies of the Windsor clan, we were far too distracted by the drama unfolding under the Buckingham Palace roof to even notice.
With the brand new season comes a stellar new cast with Oscar-winner Olivia Colman stepping into Claire Foy's miniature heels and Tobias Menzes stealing Matt Smith's crown in the role of Prince Philip.

If you can steer your eyes from the Silver Jubilee for one moment, it seems Prince Charles - played by Jack O'Connor - is stepping into the spotlight this season, as he reappears as a 20-something Cambridge University student struggling to understand the royal role thrust upon him.
In one standout scene, he is told to "watch out" for his family's intentions as his highly-publicised romance with Camilla Parker Bowles (née Shand) - played by Emerald Fennell - is introduced to viewers. In an admittedly rather brief preview, she is seen lounging in the bath tub twirling a cigarette in her fingers by candle light.
Meanwhile, Prince Charles is given advice by a mysterious character: "Never turn your back on true love".
We don't know about you, but next month can't come soon enough.
The Crown Season 3 premieres Sunday, November 17 on Netflix.
