‘The Crown’ Star Reveals Why Some Sex Scenes Were Cut From The Show

"No one wants to see royal boob!"

Vanessa Kirby has explained why some of the raunchier scenes of the hit Netflix series The Crown were toned down—or cut altogether.

Appearing on Dolly Alderton’s new podcast, Love Stories, Kirby recounted how two scenes with explicit content in the script did not make it onto the show.

“There was one (sex scene) written in The Crown, in episode seven of this season,” Kirby said.

“We had long discussions about what it should be, and it just became clear that to titillate was not the aim. With Margaret, I was like, ‘No one wants to see royal boob, not really’.”

Another sex scene with “lots of positions” was scrapped, too.

29-year-old Kirby also revealed that there was a saucy scene between Elizabeth (Clare Foy) and Philip (Matt Smith) in the first season that did not make the cut.

“I think they were in South Africa filming, and they were like “I just don’t think anyone wants to see the Queen having sex”,” she joked.

She’s probably right – if you’re on a bank note we probably don’t want to watch you doing the deed.
