Female Shooter Who Opened Fire At YouTube Headquarters Has Been Identified

Police say the incident was not terror related - by Jessica Bosco
  • 04 Apr 2018

A woman who opened fire at the headquarters of YouTube in San Francisco has been identified as 39-year-old Nasim Aghdam.

Wearing glasses and a scarf, Aghdam has been identified as the shooter who opened fire, injuring three victims who were sitting outside the campus before taking her own life.

Details are continuing to emerge surrounding Aghdam's motives, however TIME reports that the incident is not terror related but rather appears to be the result of a domestic situation, with Ms Aghdam’s boyfriend believed to be one of the victims.

According to NBC, Aghdam, a YouTuber herself with 5,000 followers across multiple channels, had posted a rant online about the company in January 2017 over changes to the platform, saying the company “discriminated and filtered” her content which affected her views and therefore money she received.

Aghdam posted workout videos but the company reportedly put an age restriction on her videos as they were deemed "too racy".

NBC also reports that the rant read, “Be aware…there is no free speech in real world and you will be suppressed for telling the truth that is not supported by the system. Videos of targeted users are filtered and merely relegated, so that people can hardly see their videos.”

Aghdam also reportedly included a quote from Adolf Hitler, saying, “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.”

"We know very, very little right now, and we probably won't know more until tomorrow morning," San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini told CNN.

All the victims are currently in hospital, with a 36-year-old male, believed to be the intended victim, in critical condition.

A female victim, 32, remains in serious condition, and another female victim, 27, in fair condition, ABC reports.

A fourth person was injured as crowds scrambled to safety but no further information has been released on their condition.

Police responded to the scene after receiving multiple emergency services from terrified employees inside the Silicon Valley building, reports SMH.

US President Donald Trump has responded to the incident with a statement: "Was just briefed on the shooting at YouTube’s HQ in San Bruno, California. Our thoughts and prayers are with everybody involved. Thank you to our phenomenal Law Enforcement Officers and First Responders that are currently on the scene."
