Events such as the Melbourne Cup, Derby Day and Oaks Day have strict dress codes that encourage attendees to style headwear, such as fascinators, headbands and oversized hats, with matching clutches, shoes (comfort is key) and eyewear – something regular racegoers, such as Jodi Anasta, who is this year’s MIMCO Spring Style Ambassador, do best.
When it comes to her accessories dos and don’ts, Anasta, who tops best-dressed lists year upon year, says that she loves to experiment with new trends, millinery and headpieces for race days. “There’s more opportunity to mix things up and it’s a quirky way of showing off your personality. I like metal crowns, headpieces and anything jewelled as opposed to a fascinator or basic hat,” she says. She also notes that it’s important not to overthink things: “When it comes to accessories, your shoes and bag should be about creating continuity within your outfit, but there’s no need to go too matchy matchy.”
