What is Thermage?
First things first: what even is Thermage? Long story short, Thermage uses patented radiofrequency (RF) technology to effectively heat the deepest layers of your skin; this process stimulates your existing collagen and tells your body to produce even more.
After the treatment, your skin will start growing new collagen deep within its layers, and this is what gives the surface a much smoother appearance. More collagen = less wrinkles.
Is Thermage right for me?
Thermage has been proven to work on ageing, crepey skin across the body – whether that’s on the face (mouth, eyelids, forehead, jawline) or body (legs and abdomen). The only way to know if Thermage is right for your particular set of circumstances is to book in a consult with a practitioner at an approved clinic. Does it hurt?
The Thermage FLX system boasts some serious power but has been designed to minimise uncomfortable sensations. You can expect to feel a brief moment of heat when the treatment device touches your skin, followed by a cooling sensation to help protect your skin and counteract any discomfort. There’s also a soothing gentle vibration throughout.
How long does each treatment take?
The length of each treatment really depends on the area you want to treat. Smaller sections will be over and done in less than 30 minutes whereas larger areas could take up to 90 minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
One of the major advantages of Thermage is that you can expect to see results (i.e. smoother, tighter skin with less sagging) after one session. Results can accumulate with each treatment though, so if you want a more dramatic transformation, you can opt for a more in-depth program.
Will I need time to recover afterwards?
Some people experience a bit of redness or swelling afterwards but you should be able to resume your day as usual. No special care is required in the days following, aside from basic skin maintenance and sunscreens as part of a regular skincare regimen.
