Over the weekend – and nearly three weeks after the US election – Hillary Clinton’s people announced they would participate in a vote recount in Wisconsin, as well as potential recounts in Pennsylvania and Michigan. Before you get your hopes up, this is what you need to know.
Why the recount?
Green Party candidate Dr Jill Stein first called for recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania – three states where President-Elect Donald Trump won by only a very narrow margin.
Dr Stein cites “statistical anomalies” for the recount, BBC reports, and has already raised $US5 million for the recount, which Wisconsin’s election board has approved.
If those three states changed to Clinton victories, Hillary Clinton would be our President. However, experts say this is highly unlikely.
When is it happening?
The vote recount must be done by December 13 according to federal deadline.
What does Donald Trump think?
Predictably, the President-Elect took to Twitter – again and again and again:

His advisor Kellyanne Conway defended the tweets, telling CNN Sunday: “This is the president-elect’s position right now and I would say he’s been incredibly gracious and magnanimous to Secretary Clinton at a time when, for whatever reason, her folks are saying they will join in a recount to try to somehow undo the 70 plus electoral votes that he beat her by.”
