Microblading. It’s a word that conjures images of (teeny tiny) knives, needles and a whole lot of pain. But despite its ill-advised name, the tattooing technique could actually be your fast-track to amazing, believable and long-lasting eyebrows.
Bella Thorne thrust microblading into the spotlight late last year, when she Snapchatted her own procedure to her legions of fans. Oprah Winfrey is another microblading devotee, and we suspect the Kardashians have all gone under the blade as well.
Lena Dunham is the latest star to owe her new look to the semi-permanent tattooing trend. In a feature she penned for US Vogue, Dunham bemoans her naturally “thin and pale” patchy eyebrows and details how she transformed them into the set of power brows she has now.
Dunham saw “permanent make-up pioneer” Dominique Bossavy, who divides her time between her Beverly Hills base and Manhattan to tend to her A-list clientele.
In Australia, there are now countless salons offering the procedure, including Amy Jean Eye Couture, who operates in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.
Do your research when choosing a salon and always ask to see before and after photos: you want the colour to suit your skin tone and the shape to suit your face, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
