Meghan Markle’s estranged father has given yet another interview, detailing his fractured relationship with both his daughter and her husband, Prince Harry.
In the new interview, Thomas Markle says he discussed his staged paparazzi photos with his then future son-in-law and had lied to him, denying the media reports, and allegedly told him he “was being measured for a hoodie.”
In an interview with The Sun On Sunday, Markle also says Harry had warned him about the press.
“Harry told me that I should never go to the press. That it would end in tears. He said, ‘They will eat you alive,'” he said. “He was right.”
Markle then goes on to detail another phone conversation with Harry, which reportedly took place while he was in the hospital recovering from a heart attack that became heated.
According to Markle, Harry told him this “never would have happened” if he had listened, to which he says he replied, “Maybe it would be better for you guys if I was dead…then you could pretend to be sad.”
He then reportedly hung up the phone on Harry.
“I felt disrespected by them. I was recovering from a heart attack, lying in a bed, having a phone call, and the things were being said that hurt me,” he told The Sun. “ I felt like I was being blamed for my mistakes when I was in my hospital bed recovering from a heart attack.”
According to a source, the Duchess now just wants time and space away from her father, to adjust to her new royal life and marriage.
“Meghan loves Thomas and does want to maintain a relationship with him in the long run,” a source told the publication. “But at the moment she feels he needs and bit of space. She also wants to take a bit of time out.”
“She is adjusting to married life and her new role in the spotlight. Meghan is hopeful that things will get better but it will take time. There is no quick fix.”
Royal officials have reportedly met to discuss how to deal with Markle as the problem doesn’t seem to be going away.
At the end of his interview, Markle once again urged his daughter to get in contact with him.
“I love you and want to talk to you – pick up the phone.”
