300 of Hollywood’s most powerful women have launched a project to fight sexual harassment in the film industry, the New York Times reports.
“The clock has run out on sexual assault, harassment and inequality in the workplace. It’s time to do something about it.”
High profile power players including Reese Witherspoon, Margot Robbie, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Emma Stone and Eva Longoria have joined forces to launch the initiative, which aims to tackle sexual harassment not only in Hollywood but in all workplaces. The campaign has already raised over USD $13m of it’s $15m target. Money raised will be used to fund legal support for both male and female victims of sexual harassment.
Time’s Up was formed soon after allegations against Harvey Weinstein came to light, and will also push for legislations against companies that harbour perpetrators.
“If this group of women can’t fight for a model for other women who don’t have as much power and privilege, then who can?” Shonda Rhimes told the Times.
The campaign is being described as a “unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere”.
