Timothy Steains is a lecturer in the Department of Gender and Cultural Studies. His PhD thesis 'Becoming Mixed: Intercultural Engagements with Japan in Contemporary Australian Literature, Cinema, and Theatre' used mixed race identity to think about Australian representations of contact with Japan.
