Tod’s Just Threw The House Party Of Our High-Fashion Dreams

And thanks to the new digital format, we were all invited

Step inside Villa Necchi, a Milanese mansion designed by Piero Portaluppi in 1932. It’s the address on the invite for Tod’s spring/summer 2021 presentation, although most of us are watching from our far less lavish living rooms.

In the short film, Norwegian-American singer Okay Kaya takes the microphone while a posse of models (including Irina Shayk and Karen Elson) showcase the collection. The colours are bold and vibrant – brighter than Tod’s go-to neutrals – the cuts are soft and fluid, and the textures are washed and worn. Think a belted jacket resplendent in wisteria purple, patchwork leather blousons, studded sandals laced to the ankle, and an electric pink bucket bag.

On that note, there are bags aplenty, including the Oboe — a fresh take on the house’s classic hobo — and geometric designs marked with the T Timeless motif.

Then there’s the audience. The FROW (Fashion Week’s front row) has been notably missing from this season’s virtual offering. No matter for Tod’s, who invited Olivia Palermo, Phoebe Tonkin, Derek Blasberg and more to take a front seat to the action. Throughout the film, their faces pop up on the screen, like a Zoom call for the style set. They’re not quite on the Villa Necchi dance floor, but they’re there in socially distanced spirit.
