Since launching his eponymous label back in 1999, Maticevski has fine-tuned his instantaneously recognisable style. Over his career, the designer has ventured from ready-to-wear into bespoke pieces commissioned for a plethora of high-profile events at the request of his strong A-list fanbase.
After a stint dressing the Big Apple's buzzy starlets, the designer turned his hand to childrenswear, accessories and custom bridal attire.
So it comes as no surprise to learn that the 42-year-old boasts an impressive number of accolades from the 2002 Best New Designer Award to the 2012 National Designer Award taking pride of place on his mantelpiece.
On his highly-anticipated return to home soil, festival CEO Graeme Lewsey said, "Toni Maticevski's work is an exhibition of creative and original Australian design, on which the foundation of the festival was built."
"With his experimental approach, eschewing mainstream trends, Toni's collections demonstrate somewhat of a creative utopia, and has continually shown how one can quietly achieve global success through a genuine talent and a dedicated approach to the fashion business. We welcome his return once again to the festival in March 2020."
The designer himself added that he is "excited" to make a comeback at the event.
"I cannot thank the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival family, and the team from marie claire enough for their continued championing of original Australian design," Maticevski said.
"Back in 2012, when I first had the opportunity to showcase my archives, it was a special moment and a special show. I look forward to sharing my summer collection and a preview to the pre-fall and winter collections next March."
