Dead To Me
Netflix’s new dark-comedy Dead To Me only dropped last month, but it’s already become a viral hit. Starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, the series is described as an “addictive dark comedy that dives into the painfully unfiltered, weirdly funny waters of grief, loss and forgiveness.”
“Jen (Christina Applegate) is a sardonic widow determined to solve her husband’s recent hit-and-run murder,” the show synopsis reads. “Judy (Linda Cardellini) is an optimistic free spirit who’s recently suffered her own tragic loss. When the two women meet at a support group, they become unlikely friends despite their polar opposite personalities.”
“But as they bond over bottles of wine, Entenmann’s cookies and a shared affinity for The Facts of Life, Judy desperately tries to shield Jen from a shocking secret that could destroy her life as she knows it.”
The Society
Described by Netflix as a modern take on 1954 dystopian novel Lord of the Flies, The Society follows a group of teenagers who find themselves mysteriously transported to a twisted version of their wealthy New England town, West Ham. The show stars a cast of up-and-coming actors like Australia’s own Natasha Liu Bordizzo and has a “female-centric” approach to the classic tale.
“The Society follows a group of teenagers who are mysteriously transported to a facsimile of their wealthy New England town, left without any trace of their parents,” the official Netflix descriptor says. “As they struggle to figure out what has happened to them and how to get home, they must establish order and form alliances if they want to survive. The series is a modern take on Lord of the Flies.”
The Bold Type
Available on Stan, The Bold Type is a fun and easy-going series about three best friends in the publishing industry. While typically lighthearted in nature, the series has been praised for its ability to tackle tough subjects (such as sexual assault, #MeToo, gun laws and sexuality) in a modern and believable way. The series was created by Sarah Watson and stars Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee, and Meghann Fahy. It is inspired by the life of former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles.

Grand Hotel
While it hasn’t yet been released, ABC series Grand Hotel is set to be your new guilty pleasure. Based on the Spanish series Gran Hotel, the show follows the professional and personal lives of people working at a family-run hotel in Miami Beach. The series is executive produced by Eva Longoria, so you know its got to be good.

Charismatic Santiago Mendoza owns the hotel, while his glamorous second wife, Gigi, and their adult children enjoy the spoils of success. The Act
Patricia Arquette and Joey King’s new series The Act will send shivers down even the most hardcore true crime lovers back. The series is described as a “seasonal anthology series that tells a startling, stranger-than-fiction true crime story.” The Act tells the gripping true story of Gypsy Rose Blancharde and her mother, Dee Dee Blancharde, and is based on a 2016 article by Michelle Dean. On June 14, 2015, Dee Dee was found dead inside of her home and locals suspected foul play in her murder. The killer ended up being the unlikeliest suspect of them all – her own daughter.
The Cry
The Cry, which aired on ABC earlier this year, was quickly hailed as one of the TV events of the year. The series portrays couple Joanna (Jenna Coleman) and Alistair (Ewen Leslie) leave Scotland with their baby son Noah to visit Australia to visit Alistair’s mother, Elizabeth (Stella Gonet). They are also there to fight for custody of Alistair’s daughter Chloe (Markella Kavanagh) against his Australian ex-wife Alexandra (Asher Keddie). Once they arrive in the small Australian town for the visit, baby Noah mysteriously disappears from the back of their rental car, a situation which triggers Joanna’s psychological breakdown. The couple then faces the glare of global media speculation and judgement, which changes both Joanna and her marriage forever.
The Cry has already aired overseas, with over 6 million people tuning in to watch the premiere on BBC One.
The OA
Seven years after vanishing from her home, Prairie Johnson returns with mysterious new abilities and recruits five strangers for a secret mission. Her sudden return is not the only miraculous occurrence: everyone is shocked to learn that Prairie is no longer blind. While the FBI and her parents are anxious to discuss Prairie’s disappearance, she won’t talk about what happened during the time that she was missing. The Netflix series stars Brit Marling, Jason Isaacs and Emory Cohen.
