In a cruel twist of fate, it has been revealed that Mia Ayliffe-Chung, who was fatally stabbed at Shelley’s Backpackers Hostel in Home Hill, Townsville earlier this week, was never meant to be there.
The 21-year-old waitress from Gold Coast made a last minute decision not to go to the Sunshine Coast as origionally planned.
The Gold Coast Bulletin reports that Ayliffe-Chung was due to stay on a farm to work in order to extend her visa, but she had a bad Vibe from the farm boss.
Sam Gostelow who was travelling with her tells the publication that the man had “sounded odd” when they called to confirm.
"Mia said, 'We either go together or not at all.'"
Instead the group headed to Townsville and checked into the Home Hill hostel.
Police have charged 29-year-old Smail Ayad with murder, two counts of attempted murder and serious animal cruelty.
